flashback friday

Some days I think Spencer and Lincoln look so much alike and then others not so much. You be the judge:

did you know

Blue eyes are becoming extremely rare in our society. At the turn of the 20th century about half of Americans born had blue eyes. Today only about 1 of every 6 Americans has blue eyes.

It appears the Banaszynski Boys are bucking the trend. Blue eyes are still holding strong in our house. Spencer has Scott's crystal blue eyes and it seems Lincoln will follow suit.

Man do I love these blue eyed boys.

summer afternoon

"Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language." Henry James

Today was my first full day back at work. Luckily the weather was nice so Spencer, Lincoln and I could enjoy some time at the park before Scott got home. There is nothing like a beautiful summer afternoon.

fit for a king

On Monday we brought Spencer's finished bunk beds up to his room. Scott did an absolutely amazing job! It is so nice for us to lay in bed with Spencer to read him his books at night.

Funny thing...Spencer has been sleeping on his mattress on the floor for the past 6 months. When I wake him up in the morning he usually rolls out of bed on to the floor. This morning was no different, except for the fact that he is a few feet up in the air. It didn't phase him one bit that the fall was a little further this morning!

cars and rocks

What more could a 2 year old boy ask for?

flashback friday

Here we are at Friday again! Let's go back to Memorial Day 2006 shall we? Scott and I took Spencer to the Splash Pad in St Louis Park for the first time. It was really hot and we thought it would be a great way to cool down and enjoy being out side. Spencer was less than thrilled!

other plans

Today was supposed to be Lincoln's first day at daycare. Last night as I was rocking Lincoln before bed I told him how exciting his new routine would be and how great of a place he is heading to. Before I went to sleep I had myself a good cry and Scott reassured me that he will be just fine. This morning I pumped Spencer up for Lincoln being at school with him, told him how he had to watch out for his brother and make sure he was happy. We packed everyone up and headed out the door for Lincoln's big day.

Daycare was closed today, Mechelle is sick. So that means I have to repeat all of the above.

It also means I got to spend one more day with my boys. The weather wasn't the best, but Spencer still made the best of it. After his shower tonight he proclaimed, I like the showers outside, but not so much inside. Here is Spencer enjoying his outside shower today!

Video Edition!

Many of you may remember this video of Spencer "talking" in May of 2005. But I thought it would be fun to pull it out of the archives for all to enjoy again.

just stay little

Don't grow up. Just stay little. Keep your sweet baby smell. Save your best smiles for me. Rock with your Daddy before bed. Watch Spencer play with your eyes wide. Drool and blow bubbles. Grunt while you eat. Need me for everything. Catch your breath when we step outside on a brisk morning. Squint at the bright sun that is so new to you. Burp loud, so loud that we are shocked such a noise could some from someone so small. Smile in your sleep. Did you hear me Lincoln...just stay little.

bumbo time

Lincoln finally has enough head control to use the Bumbo seat. He loves to be sitting upright and watching all the action. He now joins us for dinner in his Bumbo and also likes to sit on the floor in it and watch Spencer play.

do you wanna play with me?

This is Spencer's favorite question lately. And it is most often posed to the person holding Lincoln at the time. What does Spencer want to play? Cars of course!

And so I don't forget:

Spencer likes to know who things belong to. "Is this yours or mines?" he always asks. We try to tell him that mine doesn't have an S on the end, but since yours does, he gets confused.

Everyone always has to be a character and these characters change by the minute or hour. For example, Spencer will wake up from a nap and declare that he is Simba, Lincoln is Mufasa, Daddy is Scar, and Mommy is Nala (all characters from the Lion King). Five minutes later is will switch it up and we will all be fish from Finding Nemo. It can get a little frustrating when he will only respond to his character name and you are not quite sure who he is at the moment.

When asked when he will start going potty on the big boy potty, Spencer's response varies from tomorrow to Tuesday to in a few weeks.

Scott and I are always talking to Lincoln and asking him "Lincoln can you Smile?". Spencer likes to join in but it sounds more like "Lincoln can you file?" (the SM combination in smile are hard for him to pronounce). I guess Spencer has some filing he needs his baby brother to take care of!

tummy time

As much as Lincoln hates it, I must enforce the recommended 5 minutes of tummy time 3 times a day. I always lay on the floor and interact with him which he sometimes appreciates and sometimes finds thoroughly annoying, especially when I have my camera out. Here is tummy time from my point of view.

flashback friday

As we celebrate Mother's Day weekend, I thought I would post a picture of my first Mother's Day with Spencer. I had just returned home from traveling so he is sporting some of his souvenirs. Those cheeks just cry out to be kissed!

last comic standing

Does anyone know when auditions are for the next season of "Last Comic Standing"? Because if America finds me even half as funny as this little guy does, I will win for sure! Lincoln is full of smiles and coos all the time now. He has also found his hands and loves to suck on them and make a big, drooly mess. We may have a thumb sucker on our hands, only time will tell.

flashback friday

This picture is from early May of 2006. I was traveling to South East Asia for 2 weeks and Scott was home with Spencer. I guess Scott really puts Spencer to work while I am away. Even helping to change the oil. Who knows what he will do when he is alone with two!

it's a good thing he is so chill

Because Spencer is in his face all.the.time. We are trying to help Spencer understand that Lincoln needs his space just like everyone else. And trying to help him understand he weighs more than 3 times what Lincoln does and could easily crush him. Neither lesson has sunk in as of yet.

already

Is it just me or are these two conspiring against me already? It can't be coincidence that they both have their tongues out while I am trying to capture a sweet moment.

sunday, sunday

This is a typical weekend morning in our house. Everyone wants to be fed at 6 in the morning, including the dog. When will they learn the meaning of weekend?
