flashback friday

Wow, has it really been a week since I have posted. My Labor Day resolution is to be a little more timely with the posts.

Here is a look back to Labor Day Weekend 2006. Hope you all have a fun holiday weekend!

flashback friday

The post is a little later than usual, but I promise, this one is worth the wait.

This morning I was going through some of Spencer's old clothes trying to figure out what would fit Lincoln this fall. Spencer spotted a Green Bay Packer outfit in the pile and insisted he could wear it.

Here is Spencer wearing the Packer outfit Auntie Brenda gave to him when he was 2 months old. And him in the same outfit today...I think he can pull it off!

The saddest thing is that Lincoln is already too big for the outfit, so it won't be worn this season. Then again, maybe Spen stretched it out enough that I should try it on Linc again!

cooling off

This summer we have spent a lot of time cooling off on our deck. Spencer loves to play in his water table and Linc is happy to chill in the baby pool (filled with warm water from the sink of course).

Recently Scott and I have been sporting our suits to cool off as well. I will spare you the sight of me in a suit, be thankful you aren't my neighbors! Here is the rest of the team splashing away.

puppy love

These pictures are from the same day as the last post, but this time Hampton jumped in on the action.

Scott has some competition in the house as far as Hammy is concerned. She still won't eat or sleep unless he is present, but Ham is growing mighty fond of Linc. Now that Lincoln is sitting up, he is at the perfect level to receive kisses (more appropriately described as full on, open mouth, face licks) from Hampton.

Here is how it happens:

A nice side by side photo:

Then Ham leans over for a sniff:

Linc realizes his doggy is within grabbing distance:

Let the love fest begin (click on the picture to enlarge it and get the full effect):

check him out

Lincoln is officially a sitter. He still has the occasional tips, but for the most part he can hold his own.

Spencer in prime chubbiness!

This photo was borrowed from a photo album on my cousin Allie's facebook page.

Yes, I am on facebook.

No, I am not proud.

finding clues

Oh to have the imagination of a two year old! You see, that isn't a bubble wand he is holding, it is a magnify glass and he is finding clues. What kind of clues is he looking for you might ask, shell clues of course. And everyone knows, nothing helps you find shells in the water better than an orange bubble wand pressed to your eye!

flashback friday

These pictures are very special to me. They are from a family get together in Iowa two years ago. They bring back memories of hot, sweaty, smelly summers playing with cousins. Spencer and Lincoln don't have any cousins of their own, but this gang more than makes up for that. Now someone else needs to get married and have kids so Spen and Linc have some younger ones to play with...anyone? anyone?

how i spent my summer vacation

Lincoln was a little crabby during our week up north. Okay, more like a lot crabby! The only time he didn't complain is when he was floating in water. So, he was floating in water quite a bit!

here ducky ducky

The ducks at Holiday Acres probably gained 10 pounds while we were there based on the amount of bread Spencer fed them! They were even eating right out of his hand.

catching bubbles

How much time can you kill with a bottle of bubbles?

Hours and hours if you are Spencer and Grandpa John!

By the end of the week Spencer was a pro bubble blower and even started catching them on the bubble wand too. Look at the pictures closely!

the end of an era

Sitting at breakfast on Saturday morning before we all departed for home, I heard my grandma say to my grandpa, "This is the end of an era for us." My grandparents have generously facilitated a family vacation in Rhinelander, WI for the past 17 years and have decided this would be the last year.

I can't tell you how much our family has grown and changed over the last 17 years. Most of these changes can be seen by the group that visits Rhinelander each year.

As a whole we have gone through, in no particular order: 1 grandchild being added, 2 great grandchildren being added, 2 granddaughters being married, 6 boyfriends (2 turned into the aforementioned husbands) 1 girlfriend, 4 high school graduations, 2 college graduations, 4 driver's licenses, and much much more.

So, to my grandparents, I say, this is not the end of an era but the continuation of a tradition you started with your family many decades ago and your family will continue in your honor for decades to come.

May the vacations at Holiday Acres serve as a testament to the family you built and the values instilled in all of us.
