a success

Spencer completed his last day of swimming lessons on Sunday. We are so proud of the progress he has made in the water. When he started swimming lesson he did not like the idea of going under water or jumping in by himself. As noted in a previous post, he now loves going under water and exploring with his goggles.

These lessons pushed him outside his comfort zone in other ways as well. A known momma's boy, he was very reluctant to attend the first class knowing I would be watching from the waiting area and not in the water with him. Several lessons and packages of M&M's later he was comfortable with his teacher and the surroundings.

On the last day of lessons parents are allowed to take pictures, so I grabbed a couple shots of the little man in action. These small things, such as swimming lessons without mom and dad, add up to big change and growth for Spencer. I am enjoying every minute of this age with him and would like to bottle it as a sweet reminder of simple accomplishments meaning so much.

bitter sweet

Never has the phrase held more meaning.

He's one. I am happy.

He's one. I am heartbroken.

sippin'

That's right, I let my baby drink Dr Pepper from my Burger King cup.

We're classy like that.

let me explain

At first glance, this picture may seem a little, what's the word I am looking for, odd.

But there is a perfectly good explanation for why my 3 year old son is naked, wearing goggles, and about to submerge his face in the bathroom sink.

Practice

He was practicing using his goggles to look for things under the water. (OK, that doesn't explain him being naked, but he's 3, what can I say.)

This practice paid off huge when he played in the pool today after swimming lessons. He used his goggles to explore under the water and had a blast doing so. Although we might have to coach him on the appropriateness of informing people he can see them under the water!

Oh Spencer...You are so you and we love every single minute of it!

surprise

Scott surprised me last night with a weekend getaway to Door County to celebrate my last birthday in my twenties!

The boys are with Grandpa John and Grandma Natalie, Hampton is with our friend Rob, and I think I may sleep until noon tomorrow!

Hopefully this picture of Lincoln will hold you over until we return:

And check out the resemblance:

it's in the air

Love that is! The boys wore their Valentine's shirts in preparation for the big Love day that lies ahead. I think it put Lincoln in the swooning mood, and his victim was a 130 pound hairy companion that shares the floor with him. (I am referring to Hampton, not myself...in case you were unclear!)

He sets his eyes on the prize, note how Hammy is playing hard to get.

Makes his move.

Typical male, the moment she shows interest he is trying to find his way out!

Here is what Spencer has to say about Valentine's Day:

He wants nothing to do with love since he found out you can't marry your cousin and I am already married. He feels he is out of options at age 3.
